While Kris Buchanan's leadership is pivotal, the strength of Phase Three lies in its diverse and highly skilled team. Comprising professionals from industry-leading companies such as Zimmer Biomet, Medtronic, and Boston Scientific, the team brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the intricacies of their respective domains. The collaborative efforts of PhD chemists, adjunct university professors, and engineers with expertise in mechanical, chemical, biomedical, software, and optical engineering contribute to the comprehensive skill set driving Phase Three's success.

Kris Buchanan

CEO & FOUNDER

Kris brings nearly 4 decades of engineering leadership to the Phase Three team and has been named as an inventor or co-inventor on over 75 US and international patents.

Prior to Phase Three, Kris lead Research & Development for both Beckman Coulter and Dako and spent over a decade in the world of computer chips. Kris is well connected in both the biotechnology and medical device industries across the globe.

Wil Buchanan

VP of Engineering/General Manager

Wil holds multiple degrees in both biomedical and chemical engineering and helped lead the growth of a previous company by nearly 10x.

Under Wil’s direction, the Phase Three team has served our clients with the creation of dozens of products across a range sub-sectors.

Wil also played an instrumental role in the company obtaining the proper ISO certifications.

Business Development

Andrew Arbuckle

Director of Sales & Business Development - Headquarters

Andrew is a veteran of the medical device industry and has helped bring a range of products to market - from surgical robotics in orthopedics to brain computer interfaces for the treatment of neurodegenerative conditions.

Prior to Phase Three, Andrew helped build sales operations at an early-stage Silicon Valley startup, Rune Labs, which developed an AI-enabled Remote Patient Monitoring solution that leverages the Apple Watch to continuously track symptoms of Parkinson’s. Notably, the company also has a partnership with Medtronic Deep Brain Stimulation.

Wes Hager

Engineering Lead, Instrumentation

A graduate of Northwestern's School of Engineering, Wes is a seasoned project engineer with extensive experience in point-of-care diagnostics and flow cytometry. His expertise lies in developing cutting-edge products that impact real-world healthcare scenarios. With a commitment to excellence and a keen eye for detail, Wes plays a pivotal role in Phase Three's success in the instrumentation domain. His strategic planning and execution contribute to the company's mission of delivering innovative solutions, redefining standards in the industry. Wes's journey from Northwestern to a leadership position at Phase Three highlights his dedication to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in product development.

Michael Smith

Engineering Lead, Consumables

Michael has nearly as decade worth of engineering experience, specializing first in air and water flow measurement systems and then transitioning to Phase Three, where he now has spent five years contributing to microfluidic cartridge and instrumentation design.

Michael excels in design validation, Design-for-Manufacturing, material selection, and compatibility analysis for microfluidic cartridges, among other things. His expertise extends to sample fluid handling and preparation, focusing on enhancing user experience. His comprehensive skill set and experience make him a valuable contributor to Phase Three's success in microfluidics and instrumentation.

Marketing

Matt Buchanan

Director of Marketing Operations

With a background in Product Management and Solutions Architecture, Matt provides Phase Three with up to date IT systems and internal solutions. With a focus on user-centric design and market analysis, he collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge SaaS solutions that meet the needs of end users. 

Prior to Phase Three, Matt worked in the SaaS space, designing and creating software architecture for various use case and customers
